WDSA Annual General Meeting - 17 June 7.30pm

posted May 19, 2019, 1:35 AM by Craig Miller   [ updated May 20, 2019, 1:36 AM ]

Come one, come all! The Wellington Down Syndrome Association is holding its AGM and we would love to see all your lovely faces in attendance. Meet some other parents and find out what we have planned and how you can help. The more people we can get to help on the committee the less work we all have to do, hooray! Do you have some cool contacts or some fantastic fundraising ideas? We would love to hear about it so come along and join us, Monday 17 June, 7.30pm at Wellington Early Intervention Trust, 79 Copeland Street, Epuni, Lower Hutt.

Our guest speaker Carey-Ann is a Research Advisor for Imagine Better and an Honorary Associate in the Geography Program at the University of Waikato. She is a parent to a young son who has Down syndrome. Carey-Ann holds a PhD in human geography and works at the intersection of research and activism to challenge the marginalisation and discrimination of disabled people from a range of everyday spaces. She believes that research should be community-driven and works with disabled people and families to produce new knowledge for creating diverse and inclusive communities.

Imagine Better is a collective of disability activists, advocates and allies working to be a nationally influential thought leader, trainer, research and advocacy organisation supporting the growth and effectiveness of the disability rights, visibility and justice movements. Imagine Better is also a partner in the Family and Whanau Leadership Alliance.

AGM - Thursday 28 June

Wellington Down Syndrome Association

Annual General Meeting

This year’s AGM will be held on Thursday 28 June, 7.30pm at Wellington Early Intervention Trust, 79A Copeland Street, Lower Hutt.

Committee membership is currently very low. We don’t think that this reflects a lack of support for the Committee or the WDSA. However, the fewer people we have on the Committee, the less we are able to do as an organisation. The current Committee would like to encourage any WDSA members who would like to offer their services to the Wellington Down syndrome community as Committee members to come to the AGM and join the Committee, either as office holders, or as general Committee members.

It would be great to get your ideas about events for the following year. For example:

·       Christmas Party

·       Ball/Disco.

If you are interested in being involved but can’t make it to the meeting, please let us know info@wdsa.org.nz.
