Capture the Moment returns for 2026

Photography has the power to tell stories, capture special moments and help us see the world through someone else's eyes.

That's the idea behind Capture the Moment, IHC's annual photography competition for New Zealanders aged 13 and over with an intellectual disability, or an intellectual disability and autism.

Building on the success of the IHC Art Awards, the competition celebrates creativity while encouraging confidence, self-expression and connection through photography.

This year's theme is Nature: the Living World, inviting photographers to capture the beauty of animals, plants and the natural environment using a camera, mobile phone or tablet.

Thirty finalists will have their work exhibited at FOTO FEST in Hawke's Bay, one of New Zealand's largest visual arts festivals, giving photographers the opportunity to share their work with the wider community.
