Plus One: a new space for adult siblings
Sibling relationships are often some of the longest and most important relationships in our lives.
For many people who have a brother or sister with Down syndrome, those relationships are filled with love, laughter and shared memories. They can also bring unique experiences, changing family roles and questions about the future that aren't always easy to talk about.
That's why we're pleased to see the New Zealand Down Syndrome Association launch Plus One, a new initiative created especially for siblings of people with Down syndrome aged 18 and over.
Led by sibling and disability sector professional Siobhan Vaccarino, Plus One brings adult siblings together through regular online workshops where they can connect with others who understand their experiences, share stories, and explore the topics that matter most to them.
The workshops are shaped by the interests of participants and provide a supportive space for honest conversations, practical learning and connection.
Whether you're navigating changing family responsibilities, thinking about the future, or simply looking to meet others who "get it", Plus One offers an opportunity to connect with a community that understands.
